Final Semester

For our final semester, Helen and I have decided to go back into the Ceramics and Glass class, the same from semester 2.  It's nice to be back in a class of people, rather than working alone.  However, I miss the freedom of just doing my own project and working in the studio in my own time (usually everyday 10-4/5pm).  8am starts are back on the timetable which is really depressing!

I'm starting to think more an more about next years project, and what theme I'd like to work with, but nothing seems to be coming to light.  I know I need a topic that will keep me interested and I will enjoy working on, like my Side Show project did, but I'm concerned I won't find another theme like that one to keep me inspired.

The weather in Kuopio is slowly starting to improve - more shineshine days and the snow is melting quite a lot, the days are longer and it feels good to see grass!!

March Madness

I haven't made many entries throughout March because it was a super busy month!  Helen and I spent most of our time in Uni doing ceramics and textiles work in preparation for our Exhibition.

After various meetings with tutors we finally got the go ahead.  We then had to organise the other exhibitors, getting their information, artists statements and work plans. Spaces were then given to each student and everyone worked really hard to get their projects completed before the set up date.

On the 28th March everyone involved (Kim, Steph, Miguel, Candela, Helen and myself) came to the Cellar Gallery at the main school and worked for 2 days solid putting together the finishing touches to their work and putting it on display.  Everyone was really dedicated and helped each other out.  Marjut was an amazing help with getting equipment together in order for us to make the space look really professional.

On the 29th a reporter from the local newspaper, Savon Sanomat, came and asked us questions about our work and the exhibition.  We had our photos taken and it was published the next day, the same day as our opening night!

The opening evening was a huuuge success!  Kaisa arranged some funding for us so that we could put on a small spread.  The kitchen staff put together some amazing punch for us and we bought a few snacks.  Heikki, the head of the school, agreed to open the exhibition to everyone and did a really good job.  Well over 50 people came, which was a really big suprise to everyone! And the tutors gave us all flowers!
